Neill and Catherine are getting married in Rotterdam today, with a forecast of lots and lots of rain. However, that doesn't stop this beautiful couple from enjoying their long awaited wedding day.
I start the day with Catherine, who already looks beautiful when I arrive. Her mother and best friend are also there to help her put on the wedding dress. During moments like these you feel the tension and you can definitely see it in the photos. For Catherine this is a day she has been looking forward to for a long time.
And so it is for Neill, who is getting ready with his parents in a hotel near the city hall of Rotterdam where the wedding ceremony will take place.
The walk to the city hall already has some challenges ahead. I always bring nice transparent umbrellas to a wedding and luckily they came in handy for this wedding.
The ceremony will take place in the city hall of Rotterdam. With a small gathering, Catherine and Neill get married in this beautiful building, but with many friends and family watching from a distance via a live video connection. Neill and Catherine are originally from South Africa, so it's fantastic that many people who couldn't travel to the Netherlands can experience this important moment from a distance.
It is a beautiful ceremony, with a lot of emotion and love. At times not everyone can hold back their tears and after the official part, the long-awaited kiss is finally there.
For wedding portraits, we initially had the idea to visit several places in Rotterdam to take beautiful photos. However, the weather is so dramatic with rain and wind, that we decide to take a series of nice pictures first in the town hall itself.
Then we go to Boijmans, the beautiful new building that is covered with mirrors. Although it is very wet on the square, we still manage to make some awesome shots, but close to Boijmans, there is also a covered area where we are absolutely not bothered by the wind and rain. It turns out it was a great idea to take some wedding photos here.
For the wedding reception we drive to the SS Rotterdam, the old ship that is currently stationary and that serves as a hotel and event location. It is a modest reception with a small company, a dance, a delicious cake and nice words from family and friends.
As seen in the photos, this wedding couple won't let a little rain ruin their wedding day.
Neill and Catherine, thank you so much for letting me be here!
